ABU DHABI // The Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah has held talks with John Baird, the Canadian minister of foreign affairs to identify areas to boost trade and strengthen cooperation between the two nations.

The meetings were held in Calgary during Sheikh Abdullah’s visit to Canada, according to Wam news agency.

Sheikh Abdullah spoke of the UAE’s interest in building a strategic relationship with Canada and the importance of partnerships.

He outlined how the UAE had become a global investment destination and a centre for regional and international investors due to modern infrastructure, its location coupled with political stability and the existence of an economic legislative system.

Mr Baird acknowledged the UAE’s role in addressing regional and global challenges.

“We have a strong relationship with the UAE and we cooperate and discuss a number of issues,” he said, adding that the UAE was one of the largest trading partners of Canada in the Arab world.
