UAE and Greece take part in virtual strategic forum

A delegation of UAE ministers took part in a virtual forum aimed at bolstering ties with Greece.

The second meeting of the UAE-Greece Strategic Co-operation Forum moved online as officials from both nations discussed efforts to boost partnerships in a range of sectors.

The forum was jointly chaired by Dr Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, and Adonis Georgiadis, Greece’s Minister of Development and Investments.

Participants held talks on key issues such as international humanitarian development, trade and investments, culture, energy, digital co-operation, and agriculture.

The UAE's ministerial representatives included Dr Abdulrahman Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention, Reem Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Co-operation, Noura Al Kaabi, Minister of Culture and Youth, Ohoud Al Roumi, Minister of State for Government Development and the Future, Ahmad Al Falasi, Minister of State for Entrepreneurship and SMEs, and Dr Thani Al Zeyoudi, Minister of State for Foreign Trade.

The forum witnessed the signing of several bilateral agreements  in the areas of international co-operation, small and medium-sized enterprises and innovation, digital co-operation, cultural and creative industries, as well as the launch of the UAE-Greece Joint Action Plan for Tourism for the 2020-2022 period.

In addition, UAE property developer Eagle Hills and Greek counterpart Temes struck an agreement on the joint development of 1.8 million square metres of land in the Messinia region in Greece.

Plans include mixed-use resort hotel concepts, signature sports and recreation facilities, entertainment, a golf course and a themed community of second-home properties.

Dr Al Jaber said the forum highlighted "the directives of the leadership of the two countries to advance their bilateral ties to the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership".

The inaugural forum was held in Athens last February.
