Social media posts about Sheikh Khalifa’s health ‘only rumours’

At the weekend, people on Instagram and Twitter urged their followers to pray for the President of the UAE after rumours spread that he may have undergone surgery. Sheikh Khalifa suffered a stroke earlier this year.

ABU DHABI // All reports on social media websites about Sheikh Khalifa’s health are “mere rumours” and the President is fine, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi has said.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed urged residents to be cautious and “to use modern technology and social networking sites for the benefit of our society and country”, the state news agency Wam reported on Monday.

At the weekend, posts on Twitter and Instagram urged followers to pray for Sheikh Khalifa.

The President suffered a stroke in January. He underwent an operation and was said to be in stable condition.

Sheikh Mohammed’s comments came as he met with Suhail Shahin Al Marrar at his residence in Khalifa City.

The Crown Prince prayed to Allah to spread security, progress and welfare across the UAE and to all Emiratis and residents.
