DUBAI // The country’s annual celebration of innovation culture is to be expanded under the orders of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid.

UAE Innovation Week is to become Innovation Month on its return in February, 2018. Sheikh Mohammed, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, ordered the changes after the success of last week’s second Innovation Week, where 1,250 creative events were held across the country.

Sheikh Mohammed’s instructions were to expand the event to celebrate innovation and innovators and attract the best innovations nationwide, said Mohammed Abdullah Al Gergawi, chairman of the National Committee for Science, Technology and Innovation.

The large turnout from private, public and academic institutions also helped to make the week a success and provided the motivation to take it to the next level, Mr Al Gergawi said.

“UAE Innovation Month will see major events in each emirate open to the public for a month,” he said.

The key initiatives that support innovation in the UAE will be announced next year, and the first Innovation Month will include international events.
