ABU DHABI // A good turnout and smooth voting process for this year’s Federal National Council elections has earned the National Elections Committee praise from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.

Sheikh Mohammed thanked the NEC during a meeting in the capital with members of the Abu Dhabi FNC Elections Committee.

The Crown Prince was also briefed on the committee’s progress by Jabr Al Suwaidi, director general of the Office of the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi FNC Elections Committee, as well as the results that were achieved and the systems put into place during this year’s voting process.

Sheikh Mohammed encouraged members to focus on the road ahead, adding that following the elections, all institutions in the country were now required to pool their efforts together.

The UAE’s efforts to strengthen participation in the elections, Sheikh Mohammed said, were led by President Sheikh Khalifa.

Thirty-five per cent of the electorate voted in this year’s election, up from 26 per cent at the last election, in 2011.

Also in attendance at the meeting was Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed, Ruler’s Representative in the Western Region, Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation, and Sheikh Saif bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior.
