Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid celebrated the return of Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad to his home country of Kuwait on Wednesday.

The Vice President and Ruler of Dubai said he was pleased for the safe return of the Kuwaiti emir to "his family and loved ones".

"God bless your country and your people," he said on Twitter, wishing Sheikh Sabah good health and wellness.

Sheikh Mohammed shared a video showing Sheikh Sabah's plane arriving in Kuwait and highlights from his visit to the UAE in 2014 - set to a song by Emirati singer Hussain Al Jassmi titled I love Kuwait. The tweet was accompanied with the hashtag "The UAE loves the Kuwaiti Emir" in Arabic.

Sheikh Sabah, 90, had been in the US for the past month, undergoing medical treatment. He had initially flown out to meet President Donald Trump in early September but the meeting was postponed after Sheikh Sabah was admitted to hospital. Sheikh Mohamed bin Rashid posted a tribute to the emir at the time, wishing him a speedy recovery.

In August, the emir's office said he had suffered a "health setback" while in Kuwait but did not provide details. The country confirmed his recovery after a public appearance on August 26.

Sheikh Sabah has ruled Kuwait since January 2006 and is known in the Middle East as a mediator of regional disputes. He has pushed for diplomacy to resolve issues such as the ongoing boycott of Qatar by the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Egypt, and hosted global donor conferences for war-torn nations like Iraq and Syria.
