Sheikh Mohamed inspects new weapon systems on UAE Black Hawk helicopters - in pictures

Work by Ammroc will enable the aircraft to carry laser-guided anti-tank missiles as well as multi-purpose weapons

Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed has inaugurated an integrated weapon system developed to weaponise and enable Black Hawk helicopters to perform a variety of attack missions.

The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces commended the sophisticated technology being developed by the Advanced Military Maintenance Repair & Overhaul Centre (Ammroc).

He said the country was relying on it to establish a solid base for military defence systems, according to Wam, the UAE state news agency.

Sheikh Mohamed was briefed by the manager and the chief executive of Ammroc on the key features of the programme.

It will enable Black Hawks to carry an integrated suite of laser-guided anti-tank missiles as well as multi-purpose weapons, which makes the aircraft the most advanced in the Black Hawk series, Wam reported.

The suite is a first in the region, with the UAE, through Ammroc, having secured an international patent for this advanced technology, which qualifies the country to market and produce similar suites for all potential clients.

Six helicopters have been developed by Ammroc, the strategic partner of the UAE Armed Forces.

The system passed a series of live-fire tests as well as field simulation experiments to ensure its safety and combat preparedness.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Rashid Al Mualla, Deputy Ruler of Umm Al Quwain, Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed, Ruler's Representative in Al Dhafra Region and Sheikh Khalid bin Zayed were also in attendance at Qasr Al Bahr Majlis.
