President Sheikh Khalifa has invited the president of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, to visit the UAE.

The invitation was delivered by Dr Mohammed Al Jaber, the UAE's ambassador to Kazakhstan, during a meeting with the Kazakh Foreign Minister Beibut Atamkulov.

Dr Al Jaber also passed on Sheikh Khalifa's greetings and conveyed his congratulations on the president's election win this year.

Mr Atamkulov, in turn, relayed the greetings of President Tokayev to the UAE President, state news agency Wam reported.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed regional and international developments of mutual interest.

Dr Al Jaber also met Murat Nurtleuov, Aide to the President of Kazakhstan on International Affairs, where they discussed ways of expanding ties between the two countries.

If the invitation is accepted, it will be Mr Tokayev's first visit to the UAE since his election in March. The former Kazakh president, Nursultan Nazarbayev, visited the UAE in 2016.

Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, last visited Kazakhstan in 2011, where he met Mr Nazarbayev.
