Sheikh Khalid bin Mohamed, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Office, visited the Abu Dhabi Youth Centre on Wednesday.

Accompanied by Shamma Al Mazrui, Minister of State for Youth Affairs, Sheikh Khalid was briefed on its progress and final design.

He toured the various sections and facilities of the centre, which has a capacity of 2,000 people and is the largest youth centre in the country.

Sheikh Khalid said Emirati youth centres have become cultural destinations and leading global models of empowering the youth and improving their skills, the state news agency Wam reported.

The centre covers 4,500 square metres and offers more than 20 creative services.

The building, previously known as The Wing, had been largely unused since it was built in 2009.

The structure near Zayed Port was intended to be an exclusive Formula One club and was built by Aldar Properties.

It was designed to look like the lines of the rear wing of an F1 car, and has a glass-walled restaurant and lounge.
