Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation, met India's Minister of External Affairs Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in New Delhi on Friday.

The ministers discussed the strong ties between the two countries and ways to increase co-operation and partnership in various fields.

Both talked of ways to tackle the pandemic and support global efforts to ensure the delivery of vaccines to all countries.

They also discussed regional and international issues of common interest. Dr Jaishankar hosted a lunch in honour of Sheikh Abdullah and his delegation.

Dr Ahmed Al Banna, the UAE ambassador to India, also attended the meeting.

Sheikh Abdullah praised the friendly relations between India and the UAE. He said the Emirates was keen to strengthen and develop ties further.

In 2019, trade between India and the UAE was valued at $59 billion, making the UAE India's third largest trading partner that year – after China and the US.

The UAE is India's second largest export partner after the US.

In August last year, India invited further investment from the UAE in sectors of the economy such as infrastructure, logistics, food parks, motorways, ports, airports, renewable energy and defence.
