Senior UAE ministers and diplomats will come together to celebrate the start of the National Festival for Tolerance and Human Fraternity next month.

Ambassadors of 50 countries as well as leading Emirati artists and writers are also expected to join festivities in Abu Dhabi from November 8.

The opening ceremony will take place at Umm Al Emarat Park in the capital, with a series of events continuing until November 16.

Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak, the UAE Minister of Tolerance, said the event aimed to encourage a sense of compassion and peaceful coexistence.

“Our country is a leading example of coexistence and peace that we can cherish and be proud of before the whole world,” he said.

“There will be activities and events by ministries, local governments, and public a private institutions throughout the country.”

Now in its second year, the festival will seek to honour the work of Sheikh Zayed, the Founding Father of the UAE.

“[It is] an expression of our pride in the Founder of the State, the builder of its [the UAE’s] renaissance,” said Sheikh Nahyan.
