The UAE flew 51 tonnes of food aid to the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina as part of its humanitarian initiatives during Ramadan.

"The UAE and Bosnia and Herzegovina share close historical ties and have engaged in joint action in many areas as part of the keenness of the two countries’ leadership to develop and strengthen these ties to serve common interests," said Nabila Al Shamsi, UAE ambassador to the Republic of Montenegro and non-resident ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina and to the Republic of Kosovo.

"These food supplies sent by the UAE to our brothers in the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina are part of the provision of food to families in need during this holy month," she added.

Last year, the UAE sent two aircraft carrying 50 ventilators and 17.3 tonnes of medical aid.

The Emirates will fund 100 million meals in 30 countries during Ramadan.

The campaign, launched on April 11, reached the target of raising Dh100 million ($27.2m) in only 10 days, thanks to support from 185,000 donors – individuals and companies, both inside and outside the UAE.

On Wednesday, the Emirates sent 50 tonnes of food aid to Tajikistan and 46 tonnes to Egypt.

Food packages were also distributed in Ghana, Angola and Uganda this week.
