Patriotism and belonging at heart of national service, UAE youth minister says

DUBAI // The values of patriotism and belonging are exemplified through the national service law, the Minister of State for Youth has said.

Praising Emirati youth for embracing military service, Shamma Al Mazrui said: “You are the pride of the nation. Those in military service represent the bright image of the Emirati youth who are generous.

“Joining the military service is an honour, to safeguard the nation and its people.”

The 22-year-old minister was addressing female conscripts at the Khawla Bint Al Azwar Military School during her first field visit following the Cabinet reshuffle.

“Joining the military service is not an easy decision for women, generally; it requires sacrifice and you proved that [you] are able to efficiently and effectively handle today’s challenges,” added the minister.

Ms Al Mazrui was welcomed by General Sheikh Ahmed bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, director of the National Service Authority, and senior officers.

She said Emirati youth have become a symbol of will and determination, ready to make sacrifices to safeguard the nation and its achievements.

Touring the military school, Ms Al Mazrui learnt about the training programme for female conscripts that includes using firearms and skills related to being independent and punctuality.

“I can see that you are gaining knowledge and skills in military affairs and others to serve the community and safeguard our beloved nation. Defending our nation can be in our offices, volunteering, military action, which eventually is protecting our nation’s achievements,” she told the conscripts.

“I have two brothers who are currently conscripted. I send you all our appreciation, and to all who are working on such a leading national project for your sacrifices to safeguard our nation and ensure our security.”
