The UAE yesterday joined the international community in condemning North Korea for conducting its third nuclear test on Tuesday.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said: "Such repeated tests could undermine efforts for peace and stability in the Korean peninsula.
"A responsible approach in international relations is largely dependent on the need to fully respect resolutions by the international community and to comply with nuclear non proliferation principles to maintain international peace and security."
The ministry said North Korea had violated the UN Security Council's resolutions 1874, 1718 and 2087, which call on it to refrain from nuclear tests or using the ballistic missile technology in the tests.
UAE officials called on the country to respect international resolutions and conventions and not accelerate tension in the Korean peninsula. It added the policy adopted by North Korea would further deepen its isolation.
The tests took place at the Punggye-ri site in the north-east of the country on Tuesday morning.
State-run Korean Central News Agency said the test was "to defend the country's security and sovereignty in the face of the ferocious hostile act of the US," adding that the test was conducted in a "safe and perfect way."
