More than 50 illegal advertisements have been pulled down across Abu Dhabi as the municipality targets "casual signs marring the city's appearance".

On Monday, municipal teams at Al Shahama, Al Rahba, Al Bahya, Al Samah and Al Ajban removed adverts that breach Law No 2 for 2012 governing the Public Appearance, Health and Tranquility.

The campaign was carried out in co-ordination with Al Rahba Police Station and Abu Dhabi Waste Management Company (Tadweer) and explains the need to secure necessary permits to post an advert or poster. Those who fail to do so face a fine of Dh1,000.

Last year fines totaling Dh56,000 were issued to people for posting illegal advertisements around Abu Dhabi.
