Ministry of Labour warns agencies to renew licences

About 600 licensed recruitment agencies have expired licences.

Private recruitment agencies are urged to renew their expired licences or risk administrative fines starting on March 5, the Ministry of Labour warned.

The Cabinet has decided to reduce the amount of the fine for non-renewal of licenses from Dh10,000 to Dh1,000 for mediation offices and Dh2,000 for temporary employment offices, said Humaid bin Deemas, assistant under-secretary for labour affairs at the ministry.

The ministry implemented the cabinet’s decision, which took effect on January 5.

It provided temporary employment agency business owners a 60-day grace period to renew their licenses and avoid the fine. The fine is usually issued against these agencies on the following day of the expiry date.

Mr bin Deemas called on private recruitment agencies to speed up the renewal of their licenses before the deadline, and partner with the labour ministry to regulate and organise the labour market.

About 600 licensed recruitment agencies have expired licences. Of those, 50 are mediation and temporary employment agencies, he said.
