The Indian consul general will interact with blue collar workers over breakfast meetings at different labour accommodation each month under a new initiative that begins on Friday.

The campaign – Breakfast with Consul General – is being organised by the Consulate General of India in Dubai and Pravasi Bhartiya Sahayata Kendra Dubai. It is a welfare initiative of the Indian government to support its citizens.

Dr Aman Puri, Indian Consul General, will visit worker camps in Dubai and the Northern Emirates on a Friday every month, when he will share a meal and listen to citizens' grievances.

The first meeting will be held on January 1, when Dr Puri will visit L&T Labour Accommodation at Dubai Investment Park.

"The consulate attaches great importance to the contribution of workers to our country's economy, to their families, and their state governments," said Dr Puri.

“This public outreach initiative is aimed at interacting with the workers to get their first-hand experience and feedback, and helping them feel comfortable and share their grievances and experiences.”

The consulate plans to provide workers with financial literacy and training. It will also keep Indian citizens abreast of new initiatives by their government.

Workers will also be taught new skills and will undergo health screenings.

Cultural programmes will be held to mark the occasion.
