The Gov Games are going global by adding a new category for international city teams.

The addition was announced by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai, who also conceived of the Dubai government's high-energy team-building challenge last year.

He said adding the 'International City Teams' category to next year's event would transform the Gov Games into a global sporting event - in line with Dubai’s commitment to be a global example of teamwork, unity and tolerance.

Teams registered under the international category will compete for a Dh1 million prize.

Open to men and women, the city teams will have to complete the same Gov Games obstacles that host the men’s and women’s competitions for government departments from the UAE. Next year’s games will also be extended to run over five days, from this year’s four.

A total of Dh1.5m in prizes are up for grabs split between Dh1m for the winners, Dh300,000 for the runners up and Dh200,000 for the third place team.

This year’s winners - the F3 men’s team led by Sheikh Hamdan, and the F3 women’s team - both donated their D1h million winnings to charity.

Gov Games is organised by the Executive Council of Dubai in partnership with Dubai Sports Council.
