Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, the Ruler of Fujairah, has arrived in the Tunisian capital where he will lead the UAE delegation at the 30th Arab League Summit that starts on Sunday.

Sheikh Hamad landed in Tunis-Carthage International Airport on Saturday, where he was welcomed by Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi.

Sheikh Hamad was accompanied by Dr Anwar Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs; Saif Al Hajeri, chairman of the Department of Economic Development - Abu Dhabi; and Faris Al Mazrouei, Adviser to the Ministry of Presidential Affairs.

The summit, to be chaired by Mr Essebsi, will address a number of regional issues, including the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, the Syrian crisis, including US President Donald Trump's decision to recognise Israel's sovereignty over the Golan Heights, the latest developments in Libya, Yemen and Sudan and Iran's interference in the internal affairs of its neighbouring Arab countries, reported state news agency Wam.

The UAE delegation also includes Saeed Al Raqbani, Special Advisor to the Ruler of Fujairah; Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director General of Abu Dhabi Fund for Development; Rashid Al Mansouri, UAE Ambassador to Tunisia; and Juma Al Junaibi, UAE Ambassador to Egypt and Permanent Representative to the Arab League.

On Friday, Saudi Arabia's King Salman arrived in Tunis where he received a warm welcome from Mr Essebsi.

A huge banner erected near the Tunis-Carthage airport welcomed the Saudi monarch, hailing him as "Salman the Benefactor".

Representatives from the 22 Arab League states are expected in the Tunisian capital, along with thousands of visitors and the UN secretary general Antonio Guterres.
