FNC speaker discusses regional issues with Iranian president

TEHRAN // Mohammed Ahmed Al Murr, the speaker of the FNC, has welcomed results of talks between Iran and the P5+1 countries over Tehran's nuclear programme.

He said he hoped that the two sides would reach an inclusive, final agreement that ensures international sanctions on Iran are lifted while promoting peace in the Gulf region and the world at large, the state news agency Wam reported.

Mr Al Murr made his remarks during a meeting in Tehran with the Iranian president, Hassan Rouhani. Mr Al Murr said the UAE and Iran maintained longstanding, historic ties based on mutual respect, good neighbourliness and cooperation in maintaining security and stability in the region.

He also wished Mr Rouhani success in handling internal and external matters.

Mr Al Murr said both countries aimed for a renaissance of their civilisations and a reduction of extremism and differences in the Islamic Ummah. They also discussed joint efforts in combating terrorism and non-interference in the internal affairs of other states.

The two sides stressed the importance of furthering bilateral ties in light of reciprocal visits between the Foreign Minister, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, the Iranian foreign minister Mohammed Javad Zarif.

Mr Al Murr conveyed the greetings of the President, Sheikh Khalifa, the Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.
