First woman appointed to Abu Dhabi Executive Council
ABU DHABI // The President, Sheikh Khalifa, in his capacity as Ruler of Abu Dhabi, has appointed the first female member of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council.
Dr Amal Al Qubaisi is a Federal National Council member and also the new general manager of Adec, the Abu Dhabi Education Council. An architect by profession, she was the first woman to be elected to the FNC and the first woman to chair one of its meetings.
Three other new members appointed to the Executive Council are Saeed Al Ghafli, Mohammed Al Rumaithi and Ali Al Mansouri.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, remains chairman and Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed, the National Security Adviser, remains vice chairman.
The Executive Council is the executive authority of the emirate. It assists the Ruler in carrying out his duties and powers.
The Council holds weekly meetings to discuss issues referred by departments on the progress of government-sponsored projects, the development of services and the improvement of governmental performance in Abu Dhabi.
