ABU DHABI // The 14 Egyptian detainees in the UAE are being treated well, the Egyptian ambassador to the UAE said yesterday.

Tamer Mansour, who visited the 14 accused of sedition, said they were getting “excellent treatment at the health and psychological level”, the state news agency Wam reported yesterday.

“None of the 14 accused complained of mistreatment,” Mr Mansour said.

“Even the issue of their families’ residence visas is being sorted with the Emirati officials.”

He said powers of attorney were being issued to the detainees’ lawyers.

Mr Mansour said that his country’s foreign ministry recently summoned the Emirati charge d’affaires to receive clarification on the case and arrange legal representation. The 14 were arrested by UAE authorities in December last year.

They are accused of being members of Al Islah, an organisation with close links to the Muslim Brotherhood, and of plotting to undermine the security of the Emirates.
