Dubai Youth Council holds first meeting of 2018
The discussions focused on six themes were selected from social media where the council members solicited ideas from their peers
The recently-elected Dubai Youth Council held its first meeting of the year this week with 30 of the emirate’s bright young minds to brainstorm solutions to pressing issues relevant to youngsters.
The Dec0de Dubai brainstorming session was held in the Youth Hub at Emirates Towers to “crack the code of challenges” the emirate is expected to face leading to 2021.
The discussions focused on six themes, including education; sustainability and energy; entrepreneurship; artificial intelligence and trending technologies; culture; and fitness in the community. The themes were selected from social media where the council members solicited ideas from their peers.
“This session was done for the youth by the youth,” said Maryam Al Mansoori, 24, head of Dubai Youth Council. “What better way to come up with solutions than to include the stakeholders themselves?”
The Dubai decoders brainstormed suggestions and ideas that emphasised the importance of including young people in environmental and sustainable awareness sessions, connecting the youth and elderly of the community to build connections and passing on capabilities and experiences.
“Foremost, the youth need to refine their talents, capabilities and gain knowledge and insight to keep up with the fast track changes in the world,” the Dubai Youth Council said in a news release. “The youth councils are paving the way for the youth to be heard and to have an impact on the changes they will be facing in the near future.”
“We wanted to integrate youth from different sectors with varied mindsets to tackle the upcoming challenges that will face the next generations,” said Aysha Mohammad Al Remeithi, 22-year-old member of Dubai Youth Council. “This session’s integrative approach brought up effective solutions as creativity was put into action through brainstorming and idea pitching.”
The council will continue to hold meetings and events to engage the emirate’s youth throughout the year.
