Dubai Police social media accounts were taken over by hackers in an apparent cyber attack.
Dubai Police social media accounts hacked
DUBAI // The social media accounts for Dubai Police were apparently hacked on Sunday night.
A message posted on the Dubai Police’s official Twitter account at about 7.30pm read: “Dubai Police is spying on you, Isn’t it fair that we the people do the same back?”
The tweet was accompanied by an illustration featuring horsemen wearing Guy Fawkes masks.
The Dubai Media Office sent out a message that the account had been “subject to a cyber attack and the concerned authorities are working on recovering the account”.
A hacker using the Twitter handle @TheHorsemenLulz claimed ownership for the attack and posted photos of other compromised Dubai Police social media accounts, including Tumblr, Pinterest and LinkedIn.
Police regained access to the accounts by 11pm on Sunday and the tweets were removed from their feed.
The hacker has also claimed several other cyber attacks in the UAE, including taking down the websites of Noor Islamic Bank, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority and the Central Bank.
