Dubai Government services will be available online only for one working week, starting from Sunday.

At least 100 service centres across 40 organisations are participating as Dubai tries to encourage more people to use apps and internet payments.

It follows a similar initiative last year, when government services went online only for a day.

That scheme reportedly led to a 30 per cent jump in the use of smart services during the day.

State news agency Wam reported that online transactions save time, money and environmental resources, while reducing traffic and pressure on public transport.

The initiative ends on Thursday and is being led by Dubai's Department of Finance.
