Dubai // A higher committee to implement the Dubai smart city project has been set up by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai.
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai, has been appointed to oversee the scheme.
Sheikh Mohammed announced the project on October 19. It aims to provide all Dubai residents with high-speed internet in public places, plus live services and information. The project involves remote sensor devices all over Dubai, and education, health care and general security will be managed via smart systems.
The committee will include 10 members from the private and public sectors and is to be chaired by Mohammed Al Gergawi, head of Sheikh Mohammed’s Executive Office.
“Dubai is currently experiencing huge urban development associated with high ambitions and opportunities for future and welfare,” Sheikh Hamdan said.
“The current generation of youth are lucky to be at the centre of such a transformation and development to efficiently and actively contribute to the process of building a better future.”
The other members of the committee include Sami Dahen Al Qamzi, director general of Dubai’s Department of Economic Development; Maj Gen Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, acting chief of Dubai Police; Ahmad bin Humaidan, director general of Dubai eGovernment; Ahmad bin Bayat, chairman of du, and Dr Amina Al Rostamani, group chief executive of Tecom Investments.
