Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed meets students and staff from Tsinghua University - known as 'China's MIT'

The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi was made an honorary professor of China's top university on the final day of his state visit.

Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, received the title in recognition of his support for science and technology from Tsinghua University in Beijing.

"I was delighted to visit Tsinghua University where I met its outstanding management team and students," he wrote on Twitter.

"The university plays a prominent role in promoting quality education, scientific research and supports the progress of China and the development of mankind."

Tsinghua is known as 'China's MIT' - in reference to Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the world's top ranked university.

During Sheikh Mohamed's visit to China a series of major deals have been signed between Emirati and Chinese companies and authorities to help boost economic ties.

Later, the Crown Prince joined Emirati and Chinese students for a UAE-China youth symposium to bring youth people of different cultures and backgrounds together.

"I followed with interest the UAE-China youth symposium, an event which reflects the importance of dialogue among young people from diverse cultures," he wrote on Twitter.

"By investing in education, we believe that youth are our best hope; pioneers who will play an influential role in the future."
