A Dh36.7 million development plan by the UAE across multiple sectors in Comoros has been announced.
The archipelago nation, off the east coast of Africa, is set for substantial investment by the UAE government, covering projects relating to health, education, water, food and shelter.
Forty housing units are to be constructed and five schools refurbished under the development plan.
The country will also get a new treatment centre for kidney dialysis and a fully equipped motherhood and childhood unit.
Thousands of food baskets and essential household items will be distributed as part of the project.
Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, chairman of Emirates Red Crescent, said the projects fell within the UAE’s humanitarian efforts in Comoros to deliver development goals and provide basic services.
About half of the country’s 850,000 population live below the international poverty line, surviving on less than $1.25 a day, with the nation ranking in the lowest quartile on the human development index that determines life expectancy, education and per capita income.
