DUBAI // The Ruler of Dubai has asked the UAE to mark the anniversary of his accession by sending thanks to the President, Sheikh Khalifa.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, the Vice President and Prime Minister, uses January 4 each year to bring attention to those who contribute to society.

Last year, Accession Day honoured workers.

On his Twitter page, Sheikh Mohammed said he wished to extend his appreciation to Sheikh Khalifa.

“We acknowledge that Khalifa bin Zayed indeed loves all his people,” he said. “He is a loving father and a careful provider to all, young and old. And he is close to everyone’s heart.”

He asked his 2.4 million followers to share a photo, note or short video as a “heartfelt salute” to the President.

In the first seven hours, more than 2,000 videos and photos had been shared on Instagram, the Dubai Media Office said.

“Join me in thanking the man who gives the UAE his time, his efforts and his life.”
