A revamp of Al Wathba prison is among eight projects worth Dh474 million being undertaken by Abu Dhabi Police.
The work aims to improve the efficiency of the correctional facility.
A new Civil Defence centre in Al Falah, three police stations at Al Falah, Saadiyat and Al Mirfa and Abu Dhabi Central Morgue project in the city are also being built.
"These new projects form part of the efforts ... to provide high quality infrastructure that meets the needs of individuals and the community," said Maj Gen Mohammed Al Rumaithi, Commander-in-Chief of Abu Dhabi Police.
Abu Dhabi General Services Company, Musanada, is doing the work. All of the projects aim to be energy efficient.
Al Wathba was built more than three decades ago and is located about 40 minutes outside of Abu Dhabi city.
