ABU DHABI // The Abu Dhabi Award for Excellence in Government Performance has taken a step forward, with the second and third categories being whittled down to 29 and 96 nominees, respectively.

Twenty nine entities are competing in the “projects/teams” category while 96 entities are still in the running for the “individuals” category.

These categories are two of the three main awards, the other being the main one, The Best Abu Dhabi Government Entity. Between the three, 49 government agencies have made 751 bids to win the top honours, state news agency Wam reported.

In the next step of the assessment process, award assessors will conduct field visits and interviews at the workplaces of the qualifying candidates before putting together a shortlist of finalists.

The winners will be announced at a grand ceremony in Abu Dhabi towards the end of the year.

The awards, in their third year, are meant to be a reflection of Abu Dhabi Government’s resolve to instil the principles of excellence in public service, while striking a balance between individual and institutional goals, the General Secretariat of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, the awards organiser, said in July.

Among the entities competing are the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, twofour54, Abu Dhabi Municipality, Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority, Health Authority-Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi Sports Council and Abu Dhabi Media, the owner and publisher of The National.
