More than 1,800 Emiratis living abroad cast their votes for the upcoming Federal National Council elections in the UAE.
Keen voters turned out at embassies, consulates and diplomatic missions across the world to choose their top choice candidates to sit on the 40-member advisory council.
The two-day voting process outside the country was based on the timetable of the FNC Election, which began on Sunday, in Wellington, New Zealand, and ended in Los Angeles, US.
A total of 118 polling stations had been organised internationally to allow all eligible voters a say in the process.
Early voting in the UAE will take place on October 1 to 3 across nine major voting centres and October 5 will mark the main voting day, with 39 live polling stations around the country opening up for voters.
FNC members represent each of the seven emirates and their role includes passing, amending or rejecting draft federal law, as well as discussing international treaties and agreements.
Half of its 40 members are currently elected via the public vote and the remainder are appointed.
Abdulrahman bin Mohammed Al Owais, Minister of State for Federal National Council Affairs and Chairman of the National Elections Commission, thanked the UAE’s ambassadors, consuls and heads of diplomatic missions around the world for helping to ensure a smooth voting process for Emiratis abroad.
