Government offices to close for Eid on Wednesday

Ministries and departments will be closed from Wednesday through to Sunday with work to resume on Monday for Eid al Fitr.

The government has announced the days on which government offices will shut for Eid al Fitr. Federal government ministries and departments will be closed from Wednesday through Sunday (Shawwal 3, 1431 in the Hijri year). Work will resume on Monday, Shawwal 4. The circular detailing dates for the Eid holidays was issued by the Minister of Education and Chairman of the Federal Human Resources Authority, Humaid Obeid Al Qatami. Mr Al Qatami extended his wishes to both the president and vice president of the UAE on the occasion of the upcoming Eid Al Fitr and extended congratulations to the Muslim world. Eid al Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, during which month Muslims fast from sunrise until sunset for approximately 30 days every year. Although the official date for the first day of Eid is yet to be announced, it is widely expected to fall on Friday. Final Eid holiday dates for the private and public sectors are yet to be confirmed as these will depend on the sighting of the moon, the official signal to end the fast. meishoush@thenational.ae
