Abu Dhabi Municipality is using two golf carts to transport goats and sheep from a nearby livestock market to the Al Wathba slaughterhouse.

"The municipality has been observing the performance of these cabs. If it finds it efficient, the service will be made available for other abattoirs across the Abu Dhabi island," said Dr Najdat Mohammed Nour, veterinary control section head at the municipality's public health administration. The automatic slaughterhouse at Al Wathba has a capacity of 200 sheep an hour.

Goats and sheep are transported at Dh5 per head. A third cart is used to shuttle visitors between the market and the abattoir. Other Abu Dhabi abattoirs transport sheep using two-wheeled, hand-pulled carts.
