A three-year-old girl fell to her death from her family's flat in Fujairah on Saturday.

The girl fell from the sixth floor of the building near Hamad bin Abdullah street after climbing a chair positioned near an open balcony window, according to Brig Humaid Al Yamahi, director-general of Police Operations.

He said police were called to the scene at 1pm after the girl landed on a parked car and suffered severe injuries.

She was admitted to an intensive care unit at a hospital in the emirate but died at 7pm.

Brig Al Yamahi said investigations are under way to determine the circumstances of her death.

He urged families to take the precautions needed to avoid such incidents.

There have been similar accidents in the northern emirates within the past year, resulting in one death.

In December last year, a four-year-old girl fell from a third-floor window. Manal Al Sarsi  suffered serious head injuries and was taken to Merbeh Health Care Centre before being transferred to Fujairah Hospital where she died a few hours later.

Her father urged parents to make their homes secure.

In March this year, a three-year-old girl fell to her death from a high-rise building in Sharjah.

The week before, a 16-year-old Indian girl fell to her death from her family’s seventh-floor flat in the same street.

Police urged residents to remove furniture from near windows, and keep windows locked.
