Two unemployed Emirati men and three 17-year-olds were arrested over the theft.
Gang including minors steal make-up and cash from Dubai salon
Two Emiratis and three juveniles stole Dh1,500 worth of make-up and cash from a beauty salon in Dubai, the criminal court heard on Wednesday.
On April 18, the two unemployed men, aged 18 and 25, and three 17-year-olds allegedly broke into the salon in Al Qusais by smashing the glass store-front window.
They then stole make-up and Dh1,300 in cash.
“I arrived to the salon in the morning to open it up and found the glass broken, then the door unlocked from inside, so I called police immediately,” said one of the salon owners.
The 33-year-old Sri Lankan woman said the stolen make-up was new and still in its original packaging.
Footage from the building’s surveillance cameras revealed that five men were involved.
“We saw five men arriving to the location, two of them went into the salon and the remaining waited outside. When the pair got out of the salon they headed to a nearby supermarket and stole something from there as well,” said the 31-year-old Emirati officer who attended the scene.
He said the men were identified through the video footage and some of them were arrested on April 27 before two more were apprehended on May 2. The final accomplice, aged 17, remains at large.
“Three of them were minors aged 17, two of them were arrested and admitted the burglary but said they acted as look outs,” said the officer.
He said they didn't know the bag contained make-up and threw it away when they realised, taking off with only the cash.
The three minors were referred to the Juveniles Court, while the two others were referred to Dubai Criminal Court to face a burglary charge, though they did not appear to enter a plea.
The next hearing is on August 22.
