A criminal gang were caught red-handed with Dh80,000 worth of stolen mobile phones while trying to carry out another raid on an Ajman supermarket.

Police were alerted after the thieving trio smashed the front window of the premises in the emirate's industrial area.

Officers arrived at the scene and found two of the offenders hiding in the store.

The two men were in possession of suitcases containing the lucrative haul of phones.

The duo were quizzed by police and admitted that a third man had helped them to break into the supermarket.

Major Mohammed Al Ghafli, of Ajman Police, said a search was launched to locate the third culprit.

“The investigation showed that the third person was residing in Sharjah and was caught, in coordination with the Sharjah Police, carrying a backpack with two mobile phones in it,” he said.

The investigation revealed that the mobile phones had been stolen from a shop in Al Ain.

The group had planned to steal more goods from Ajman when they were foiled by police.

The case has been referred to public prosecution.
