A UAE Cultural Development Fund is to be launched to encourage all segments of society to become involved in cultural development, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid announced on Monday.

The fund will support cultural activity, focusing on projects that promote the advancement of culture in the country, Wam reported.

The Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai also directed the Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development to work on the launch of a Creative Industries Contributions Index, which will highlight the role of the cultural sector in supporting economic development within the UAE.

He said: "Our culture represents the identity of our generations, and reflects the depth of our history. It is our message that we want to convey to the world in the most creative way. Our Emirati culture promotes the spirit of love, tolerance, and calls for openness to other cultures. The spirit and identity of our culture is inspired by Arabic and Islamic Civilizations.”

Highlighting the importance of the Arabic language, Sheikh Mohammed said, it is "the backbone of our culture. Preserving our language is a pivotal prerequisite to developing our knowledge, instilling our identity and developing our culture."
