Fishermen in Fujairah have called for the establishment of a disaster fund, a reduction in the number of Coast Guard inspections and the forming of a group to represent their interests.

Fishermen in Fujairah have called for the establishment of a disaster fund, a reduction in the number of Coast Guard inspections and the forming of a group to represent their interests.

The Fujairah Fishermen Association has 450 registered members and the fund would be collected and maintained with donations from them.

The group called for the formation of a committee to communicate with other associations in the emirate and ensure joint cooperation in a way that serves fishermen’s interests.

Fishermen also called for a deal between the association and the Coast Guard to reduce the complex inspections on fishing boats before every trip.
