Muslims should ponder and contemplate the Quran’s meaning when reciting the holy text, this week’s sermon tells worshippers.

The book – revealed as guidance and glad tiding to believers – needs to be read repeatedly as it contains “healing for the hearts and mercy for the believers”, says the sermon.

In the Quran, Allah constantly reminds believers to hold firmly to His book and act upon it because it is full of wisdom and authority. It tells believers what to do, and from what actions they should abstain.

The sermon urges worshippers to try to understand what the Creator means and to act upon His commandments.

The Prophet said: “The best among you is the one who learns the Quran, acts upon it and teaches it to others. O servants of Allah, hold on to the Quran to obtain the happiness of this world and hereafter.”

One who abides to reading the Quran is filling his account with good deeds.

The Prophet Mohammed said: “Whoever reads a letter from the book of Allah will receive a good deed from it, and the good deed is multiplied by 10.”

Adhering to the Quran brings happiness to a Muslim and stability to the family.

On the day of judgment, status in paradise will depend on how many verses of the Quran one has memorised. Those who memorise the book and act upon it will be rewarded and honoured by Allah.
