DUBAI // Free tyre checks are being offered in six communities.

Tyre manufacturer Goodyear has launched a safety programme and set up free pit stops at Discovery Gardens and Garden View Villas today.

The service will be available to Shorooq and Ghoroob properties in Mirdif tomorrow, then The Springs and Arabian Ranches on Saturday.

The pit stops will be open from 6pm to 10pm. Drivers will learn how to check tyres and pressure, and about the safety and environmental benefits of properly maintained tyres.

"Tyre safety depends on various factors and in countries facing really hot summers it is crucial to be aware of air pressure, age and the overall condition of the tyres," said Mitchell Peeters, general manager of Goodyear Middle East and Africa.

"Worn out tyres are one of the main factors in accidents."

Goodyear has teamed up with the International Association of Human Values, a UN-registered charity, to conduct internationally recognised "Road Alertness" workshops.

The charity and its beneficiaries will receive a donation from Goodyear for every vehicle inspected and the money will go towards workshops for commercial drivers to enhance their well-being and alertness.

The campaign is supported by the Islamic Affairs Charitable Activities Department, Trakhees Department of Planning and Development, and the Emirates Red Crescent.
