Motorists have been given even more reason to get on the move in Abu Dhabi during Eid Al Fitr – after transport chiefs rolled out a free parking initiative and added extra bus routes for the holidays.

The Department of Transport revealed that public parking bays will be free of charge from Ramadan 29, which falls on Thursday, until 3 Shawwal, which could be either Sunday or Monday.

The Integrated Transport Centre has said that bus services will be expanded and frequency of routes increased during the period.

Routes to Al Reem Island will now travel to Al Reem City of Lights and Al Reem Shams Tower, a new bus service has been added between Khalidiya Children's Garden and Al Maqta Souq and more services will travel to Abu Dhabi International Airport.

There will also be more buses during peak hours on key routes, with some services operating every 15 minutes instead of every 30 minutes.
