Abu Dhabi Media (ADM) has appointed a new head of public service affairs whose first priority will be to address the social and cultural agenda in the emirate.

Abdul Raheem Al Bateeh will drive the public service engagement of all the company’s brands.

“In today’s interlinked world, the global media is a critical force in shaping social and cultural identity,” said Saif Ghobash, chief operating officer.

“We have a tremendous responsibility to provide the platforms, networks and content that not only protect national heritage but also reflect the progressive and inclusive nature of Arab society.

“This is particularly significant given the rapid pace of development in the United Arab Emirates and our role in supporting the Abu Dhabi vision.”

ADM’s public service agenda aims to communicate the UAE’s position on regional and international affairs and, specifically, the nation’s values of moderation, tolerance, peace and dialogue.

Through its many brands, from newspapers – including The National – and radio to film production, which reach every demographic segment, ADM supports the five pillars of the emirate’s 2030 vision by showcasing new, relevant and appropriate content in the areas of education, culture, environment, health and sport.

Mr Ghobash said ADM’s role was to “tell the Abu Dhabi story in a compelling, objective manner”.

“Our range of assets also provide us with unrivalled commercial opportunities because through them, brands can reach every single demographic across the region and beyond,” he said.

ADM’s priorities include the training and development of local talent and contributing to the quality and competitiveness of locally produced content that celebrates and supports Emirati culture.

As a former journalist and director of news at Abu Dhabi TV, Mr Al Bateeh’s experience in the field makes him ideal for the post, Mr Ghobash said.

He said he “has experienced the rise of citizen journalism, the ability of anyone, anywhere, to shape the news, and will play a central role in advancing our public services locally, regionally and internationally”.
