Heavy fog combined with rush hour traffic to cause multiple-car pileups on UAE roads this morning.

Several accidents were reported around Dubai with the public using Twitter to warn commuters.

Those travelling towards Jebel Ali came to a standstill on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed road, previously known as Emirates Road, with reports of a large crash opposite Mirdif City Centre.

There was also a reported 10 car pile-up at the south entrance to the Jebel Ali Free Zone Authority, coming from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed road.

On the flyover on Umm Suqeim Road, five cars were involved in an accident and police are on the scene.

No injuries were reported in the numerous car crashes in the emirate according to a Dubai Police spokesman.

“Our advice is to check everything before they set off on their journey if there’s heavy fog. They should use their lights, drive slowly and keep a further distance from the car in in-front than usual. They shouldn’t change lane unless it’s necessary and if the fog is too much, motorists should pull over to the hard shoulder and wait for it to lift,” he said.

Abu Dhabi Police took to Twitter with a picture campaign highlighting visibility decreases by 80 per cent in foggy conditions.

@ArunSalgaonkar tweeted: "Super foggy morning. Insane traffic jam on Emirates Road towards Abu Dhabi." He was joined by @pavit who added: "Thick fog on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. Traffic moving very slow."

And @emilypinkyb tweeted: "Smash on the new Umm Suqeim Street flyover at the Al Khail road turn off, DXB bound, 5 cars. Police on scene! Very heavy fog."

Once again the advice to drivers: slow down, switch on fog lights, use low beams and stay away from hazard lights and high beams in the fog.
