Five years jail for Filipina waitress who took drugs at birthday party

The woman asked her Filipino friend to provide her with methamphetamine and amphetamine for her guests.

DUBAI // A Filpina waitress who provided her birthday party guests with illegal drugs was sentenced to five years in prison on Sunday.

E D, 35 was convicted by the Dubai Criminal Court of consuming drugs and using her home as a place of consumption after inviting four female friends and one male friend to take amphetamine and methamphetamine with her.

Her compatriot LF, 27, was convicted with possessing drugs and facilitating drug consumption for the other women and with consuming drugs himself. He was also given five years in jail.

Both confessed to charges at court last month. Each was fined Dh20,000 by court and will be deported after completing their jail terms.

The pair were arrested on October 23 last year by the Dubai Police’s anti-narcotics department acting on a tip-off.

During interrogation by prosecutors, the waitress said she invited her friends to her birthday party after arranging with LF to supply her with drugs.

The three other women have been referred to the Dubai Court of Misdemeanours to face charges of consuming a mind-altering substances. According to UAE law, this is a lesser misdemeanour charge, while consuming controlled drugs like amphetamine and methamphetamine is a charge to be heard before the criminal court.
