ABU DHABI // Five newborns were welcomed into the world on National Day in Abu Dhabi at Danat Al Emarat Hospital for Women and Children.
Mohammed Al Hammadi was born at 1.01am on Friday.
“His birth on National Day was a surprise for us and now the memorable occasion is doubled for us,” said his father, Sultan. “We are very thankful for this blessing.”
The 3.5-kilogram baby was due in 10 days, but decided to join the family on this special occasion for all and doubled the joy of his parents, said Dr Rihan Saafan, consultant of obstetrics and gynaecology at the hospital.
“Both baby and mother are in good health,” she said.
Staff distributed gifts and sweets to all mothers and their babies.
Salman Al Yihyaee, born at 9.36am, was the second baby greeted by staff in the maternity wing.
“The baby is in good health and we have named him Salman,” said his father, Ali Al Yihyaee. “We are extremely proud to have him join us on the 45th UAE National Day.
“From here, we would like to congratulate UAE leaders, government and the people of UAE on this very special day, which is very dear to our hearts.”
A baby girl, weighing 2.45kg, was born at 10am and is the third child in the family.
“We are blessed to have our baby girl join the family on this day,” said her father, Obaid Salem. “This is a very special occasion for us all. We have named our new bundle of joy Salama.”
In the evening, two families welcomed the birth of two baby girls.
Vino Nallaya, the hospital’s chief executive, said staff were happy to welcome the newborns.
“All five babies and mothers are doing well and are in good health. With our five newborns today, 1,889 babies have been born at our hospital since we opened in October 2015.”
