Five people were killed in three traffic accidents in Sharjah and Dubai on Friday, including an Emirati father and two children.
The 30-year-old Emirati man was driving with his 2-year-old daughter, his 4-year-old son and an Indonesian maid when his car overturned several times on Maliha Road in Sharjah.
The crash happened at about 1am. The maid was taken to Al Dhaid hospital with moderate injuries. A police spokesman said the man was thought to have been speeding.
The same morning in Dubai, an Egyptian man was reportedly split in half in a fatal accident on Emirates Road when he tried to change a tyre.
The man, in his early 30s, was hit and killed by a Land Cruiser, said Lt Imran Abdullah of the Dubai Traffic Police. The man's wife and child were with him but were not injured.
The accident happened at about 11am on Emirates Road in the carriageway heading for Sharjah.
In the third accident on Friday, a 20-year-old Emirati man died while drag racing in Al Hamda, Sharjah. A police spokesman said the man was racing with another Emirati youth when their cars collided at about 11am.
"Many resort to racing on Friday before prayers as the roads are nearly empty but this is very dangerous," the spokesman said.
