RAK // A fire on a fishing boat led to the death of an Asian man on Thursday, police said.

Two other Asian men suffered various injuries when the boat went up in flames on the shores of Al Jeer, Ras Al Khaimah.

RAK Police received a call at 10am on Thursday and police and rescue teams rushed to the scene.

Brigadier General Ghanem Ahmed Ghanem, director general of Central Operations at RAK Police, said the accumulation of fuel vapours led to an explosion in the main cabin, throwing the crewmen overboard.

Those injured were rushed to hospital for treatment and the body of the third man was recovered from the water.

Brigadier Ghanem urged all fishermen to ensure that their boats are compliant with safety requirements, saying they need to periodically check boats before use and to ensure the safety of internal components.
