A fire broke out aboard a boat in Dubai Marina on Wednesday night forcing passengers to jump into the water to escape the flames.

UPDATE: Boat fire 'lit up the whole marina'

A fire broke out aboard a boat in Dubai Marina on Wednesday night forcing passengers to jump out of the boat’s windows to escape the flames.

Firefighters from the Dubai Civil Defence and ambulance crews were dispatched to the scene after the restaurant boat Waterworld caught fire near the site of the Rahim Mosque.

The total number of people on board the boat was not immediately made clear but it was reported that at least six people were injured. Staff could be seen jumping out of the boat’s windows.

It is not yet known how the fire started.

Ferry boarding was closed and the area was cordoned off.
