Fire in Ajman high-rise injures 20
Almost twenty people suffered smoke inhalation after a fire broke out late on Monday night in a high-rise residential building in Ajman.
According to Civil Defence, the fire began in the air conditioning room on the 26th floor and quickly spread to other levels through the generators.
Firefighters rushed to the 52-floor tower on Ajman Corniche and evacuated the building of its residents.
Some 13 residents were treated for injuries on site by ambulance crews and five others, including a child, we taken to Khalifa Hospital after sustaining "moderate" injuries, said Brig Abdul Aziz Al Shamsi, director general of civil defence.
"The fire was extinguished and prevented from spreading to the other floors or nearby buildings", said Brig Al Shamsi.
After the building was cooled, the tower was handed over to forensic experts who will investigate the cause of the fire.
Brig Al Shamsi called upon tenants and landlords to comply with the safety requirements by maintaining electrical rooms, carrying out periodic inspections and installing fire extinguishers and smoke detectors.
